Subject: which reciever double din
Date Posted: July 14, 2008 at 7:25 PM

I am ready to get a new reciever for my 2007 Kia Spectra. I have always wanted a double din with a screen, I have also wanted Eclipse in my car for years. I have been looking at getting the AVN6620 but now I have seen the Alpine IVN-W505. I need help with this choice because I have been away too long! What experiences or advice can you give?

Thanks,

Ryan

if it comes down to those two.. do the alpine.... the ipod interface will be smoother... alpine's nav is just as good if not better.... simply put.... the alpine is the sharper unit of the two.... another really nice double din is the pioneer premier avicf-90bt... built in bluetooth... with usb and nav.... another excellent choice.. especially if u don't care about screen size....

there can be only one.......

So do you have navigation on the alpine without having the blackbrid? Do both units need bluetooth modules?

no you do not have nav in the alpine without the blackbird or the nve-872a. but it is a way better unit than the eclipse in my opinion. especially with the ipod interface that the alpine has you will be better off with the alpine, and yes both units will need bluetooth modules, and to add to the recomendations of double dins, i have also had great luck with the kenwood 5120 and 7120 and they have nav built in by garmin wich in my opinion works great and also needs a bluetooth adapter.
good luck

Being an owner and lover of the W205, I am telling you that you can't go wrong with the Alpine. I saw the new one, and was so bummed that I didn't wait 6 months to get that one - "it's preeeetttyy".

The iPod control is flawless, the nav is VERY nice, even if the maps are a bit dated by now, and the removable feature of the Blackbird is SUPER cool... Take the nav with you!

My vote is for the Alpine, as well.

So even though you need the blackbird to have gps which is $500, the Alpine is the one to get? I have been researching and trying to decide this for so long.

Thanks,

I just read that the alpine only has 2 volt pre outs, yuck! I think I am going to go with the Eclipse, if I go with the alpine I have to spend $800 on the unit, $500 on the blackbird and I still have to have something to boost the pre out voltage. If someone disagrees let me know. The Eclipse is $800 and alll I have to buy are the extra accessorie boxes. I liked the idea of imprint from Alpine too!

Thanks,

Ryan

2V or whatever... Makes NO DIFFERENCE!!! Use the 2V pre-outs, set your gains accordingly, and live life! I have 2V pre's, (on the W205) and I have no issues whatsoever.

High voltage pre-outs are marketing, MOSTLY. There are so few benefits to the higher output voltage that it is certainly not worth "settling" for a deck that isn't as good, or may not have the features... I am an Eclipse man at heart, but the Eclipse decks are now so butt-ugly, I'd not really want one in my dash.

Again, as an Eclipse man, get the Alpine.

I bought the Alpine! I also bought the imprint module and kit for it. I read that the imprint also boosts your pre outs to 4v and gives better sound. I will just have to buy one module at a time till I get it together. Thanks for the adivce guys and when I get it installed I will let you know how I like it!

Thanks,

Ryan

Thanks,

Ryan
