I'm looking to make my system out of the four 6.5" speaker locations in the doors in my sedan. The fronts will be a normal component set and in the rears I'm thinking about a set of 6.5" subwoofers. There is only room for 2 inches of mounting depth in the front with the door panels and no room for spacers, not sure I'm ready to chop up my door panel and make some fiberglass pods. In the rear I've got about 7 inches to play with.

I'm also going to have a 12 inch IDMAX in the back seat but only for times when I'm driving long distances and will be removed for most of my driving and all of my spirited driving.

I'm looking to have enough bass present to listen to when the 12 inch sub is not in the car. Obviously the single 12 inch woofer will be MUCH better than the door mounted subs but I'm wondering if the door mounted 6.5 inch subs will do much better than a regular set of mids from a component or coaxial setup.

My front doors are already dampened with Dynamat Extreme on both the inside and outside panels and will do the same with the rears.

I use a pair of 6.5" Tang Band subwoofers in the rear doors of my commute vehicle.  They perform well and sound pretty good.  The key is in properly treating the doors.

Yeah I plan on using a good amount of Dynamat and also separate equalization.

So do you think that they give out enough bass to make it noticable?
