i'm putting a stereo system on polaris ranger, which is 12 v,neg  ground system.the sony cd player i'm putting in for some reason, shows 10 volts from the pos. side of battery, which makes it act as a ground and its supposed to be for the mem. and clock.but i unhook the ant which is ground to the alum. top that i have on it,and unhook the ground from the stereo then the 10 volts goes away.why is it going to ground? all wiring been checked all ok.

I am lost too.  There is no reason for the voltage to go away from the yellow wire when you remove ground.  Do you also have a switched 12 volt source for the red wire of the radio?  If so does it act the same way?

Isn't a Polaris Ranger an all-terrain vehicle?  Does it even have an alternator?  Is it a voltage regulated system?

It is an ATV with electric start.  We have put systems on a couple of them.  We have replaced the roof with a Rhino-Lined MDF enclosure for 4 speakers, radio and an amp.

Something I have recently encountered:
Not saying it applies here, just didn't want to start a new thread.

Marine systems are starting to use Yellow as ground return. Both RED / Black and RED / Yellow acceptable for DC systems. It wouldn't be a surprise if this expands to other products.
