I just purchased a 15 juggernaut and i am stuck between building a regular vented box or trying some type of transmission box. My question is should i try a transmission box or just stick with the normal vented. i was wondering if anyone has tried this or knows some one that might sell custom plans. i have a old 2 door tahoe so i have plenty of room to play. any suggestion.
Since the Juggernaut is far from any kind of an SQ woofer, any effort involved in putting it into an audiophile enclosure such as a TL would be wasted, as far as I am concerned.
However, if you WANT to try a TL for it, the rules are fairly simple:
Beginning of the line = 100% to 150% the Sd of the woofer.
Length of the line = 1/4 wavelength of the Fs of the woofer, unless you are building a stuffed TL, then it become SIGNIFICANTLY more complicated.
Terminus (end of the line) = 25% to 50% of the Sd of the woofer.
That's it. That's all there is to it. If you have to ask what the Sd or the Fs of the woofer is, you are not ready for TL design.
Remember this however: If you put that woofer in a TL, a subsonic filter is MANDATORY, and you will destroy any output capabilities you might have been after by buying such a woofer. Translation: It won't get as loud as you are hoping it will. TLs are as notorious for their lack of efficiency as they are for their extension capabilities.
