The speakers in my Dodge Dakota are blown and I was wanting to replace them with midbass drivers. I found two different pairs that I like but am wondering about the frequency response of them. One set has a response of 30 Hz-5 KHz, and the other is 30 Hz-500 Hz. Should I just get both pair and put the ones with 30-5000 in the front and the others in the back? Or what??? Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated.

A response to around 5 kHz seems appropriate for a midbass, but to only 500 sounds like a subwoofer. The midbass response has to go well into the frequency range of the next driver to take over: a good response at 5000 Hz will allow for the transition to the tweeter. A driver reponse that falters at above 500 Hz, however, is suitable only as a sub and has to be crossed over to a bass driver in the normal transition region of 80 to 100 Hz. That being said, whatever driver you choose to replace the blown woofers with is not likely to work exactly right with the original crossover network. Have you given any thought to replacing the front components entirely? ------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Yes... what speakers are "blown" and what are the brands/models of the woofers you are considering? And as stevdart mentions, how are you planning to use the new woofers? ------------- Support the12volt.com

The speakers I'm replacing are factory Infinities. The fronts are component and the rear are just woofers. The brands of midbass drivers I'm debating are Audiobahn (50hz-500hz) and Kicker (50hz-500hz). As far as replacing with another component set, my tweeteres are still good and to get a good set of components is more expensive than it is buying just the woofers.

sorry, the audiobahn's freq resp is 50hz-5000hz.

So you are trying to replace a factory woofer in an Infinity setup? I can't recommend doing that unless you really don't care what it sounds like. Also, between anything with the Audiobahn name on it and anything with the Kicker name on it, Kicker is the only choice. ------------- Support the12volt.com

Honestly, factory replacements would be best. The fronts, at most, are about $100 each for an 05-07 w/ 'premium sound'. Same for the rears. The fronts, at most, are about $100 each for a 97-04 w/ 'Infinity brand'. $80, at most, for the rears. This is coming straight from Mitchell. ------------- 2013 Kia Rio -90a alternator

Well, consider how much you're willing to pay. You said all 4 woofers are blown (rattling)? So you'd need to replace them all? If so, that'll cost about $200 for 4 factory replacements. I recommend keeping the factory speakers if you plan on keeping the factory radio.
