I have a 96 suburban that I replaced the factory front speakers with a set of JL Audio XR-650-csi components. In-dash I run an Eclipse CD3200 that powers the speakers off the deck. The tweets are custom mounted in the stock location, but I molded new pods and refinished the door-lock panel so that it looks clean and one-peice. When I was initially installing the components I spent a great deal of time testing tweet placement to get the right imaging in my vehicle. XR's are notorious for difficult speaker placement to get the best sound quality out of them.
So after about two hours of testing the best place was in the factory location but angled slightly, so I molded them into the spots I needed. When I installed the 6 1/2" drivers, I originally didn't use a spacer. I ran this setup for about a week and then I finally noticed that when I rolled the front windows down, they rubbed the back of the speaker magnet just barely.
So I made up some 3/4" spacers and reinstalled the drivers. Now my imaging is completely gone. The vocals have been dragged to the floorboards.
Question: Can relocating my tweets bring the imaging back up or what else can I do to help?
Sorry for the long post.
where are your 6 1/2 aiming at? If your able to put a slight change in the angle they are at that should help that problem you could change the tweeter placement and that may help as well just get some of that yellow puddy stuff and stick it to the back of your tweeters and move them around it from your other post sounds like you work in a shop so they should be abl to bevel a new set of rings for your other speakers.
I did the install myself and I'm a manager at the car shop I work for. I could bevel the spacers as they are made from MDF, but it comes down to pure labor. The time it takes to pull the panels, speakers and do that, I'm in it a few hours. I know, I know it's mostly laziness, so I was just throwing out some fealers to see if anyone else had an idea.
Well then there is always the lazy mans way just throw more power at it till it makes no difference where the sound is comming from!

Well, do you want it to sound right, or not? ;)

I mean, you're gonna have to remove the door panels again.
And, you got XR's, man! Do it right!
