I installed the alpine ida-x100 in my 2006 f150 supercab. I bought the wiring harness and hooked everything up right. It seems to work except one very weird thing...it only powers on when the headlights are on. Does anyone know why it would do this? the dimmer and ignition wires are not backwards.

Thanks

Troy

Sounds to me that your wires are backwards.  You may have wired it up right, but the actual vehicle harness is backwards.  Put a voltmeter to your accessory wire and see what you get.  You'll more than likely get 12 volts when the lights are on and 0 volts when the lights are off.

The actual vehicle accessory wire should be either GREEN/ YELLOW, or BLACK/ pink.  Find the wire thats 12 volts in ACC and ON positions (lights on or off)

Just curious, does the radio turn on even when the key is not in the ignition and you have the lights on?

Then your wires are backwards. No question about it.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
