Does anyone know if you have to take the door panel off to replace the factory speakers or does the grille just pop off? Don't really want to go through the hassle if not needed.

Door panel has to come off. I do not know how it comes off but I do know it is a piece of cake. Installers fight to get that job when it comes in.

i am an idiot is right. Yes, you do have to take the door panel off, but it is so so easy.

1. The handle where you grab to pull the door closed (part of the door armest), look under there...........let's say you have your hand there to pull the door closed, next to the tip of your index finger is a 7mm bolt. Remove that.

2. The little thing that slides back and forth, that has the orange indicator to show whether the door is unlocked (NOT the electric lock/unlock button, the part that actually moves back and forth), pry that off, and there's another 7mm behind that.

3. At the top-forward part of the door, there's that little triangle piece, where on some foreign cars they put a tweeter.......it's just held on with clips, but I really can't remember if you need to remove it or not. I think you do need to remove it.

The plastic of that triangle is a little flexible, so see if you can move it a little, look behind to see where the clips are, and release the clips with a small screwdriver.

If you just pull on the piece with your hand, most likely it'll come right off, but there's a small chance of breaking the clips.

4. Let's say you were inside the truck, and you want to get out. The handle that you pull on to get out, down low in the door, there's a sort of "frame" around that. Just pry that off.

5. So now, you've got the "frame" around that handle off, the "doorlock indicator" off, maybe you've removed the "triangle," and you've removed the two 7mm bolts, right?

6. Take the whole entire door panel, slide it upward (toward the sky), and there're are bunch of little "hooks" on the backside of the panel that release, and the panel comes right off.

7. Disconnect the wire for the power window switch, and the courtesy light (if equipped), and that's it.

IMPORTANT; You'll soon see how these "hook" things work, after you get the panel off, and you'll see just what I mean.

But under no circumstances should you pull the door panel straight toward you, without sliding it up first. If it won't slide up, you've probably missed a screw somewhere.

If you do pull it straight toward you, some or all of the "hooks" will break.
