hi to every one new here. has any one ever redone the coil on a sub woofer.i work on cars and just decided to try to fix one i rebuilt a coil on a 400w MA woofer after i fixed it blew my friends 900w sub amp
this is my first time doing it. also how can i measure the power of a woofer? thanks!

yeah i redid the coil by hand only took 10 minutes. i replaced the wire
with 22g wire then sealed the speaker up and put it in my friends box
.the one i rebuilt surged this car and blew his 900w amp. the woofer needs a lot more power now i'm looking for a stronger sub amp.

If the woofer blew your friends amp, are you sure you want to hook it up to another amp?

What type of wire did you use???
Do you know the nominal load of the rewound coil??

i used 22g wire. thats what i need to find out. the speaker works
good on a 1600 class d amp but on old amps that i've fixed they just can't take the speaker. i had some software that told me the calculations but lost it when my computer crashed last month.
i have a moded amp in my room with a good power supply. i had to use a modded 1600w amp and with that power the coil still doesn't get warm.
i'm learning about speakers now to find out what i'm doing wrong
and some info on voice coils hard to find. any info will be helpful.

Using a 22 Ga wire for a voice coil is not going to result in any heat in the voice coil. The heat is going to be in whatever amp you connect to it. Have you even thought to test the DC resistance of the voice coil? Just to get an idea of the impedance of the coil. If it is over 1 Ohm I will be shocked. The class D amp is probably surviving by the skin of it's teeth.

You rewound a speaker by hand using 22AWG wire? Have you would coils by hand before? What kind of wire did you use? What kind of epoxy? How many layers? What's the DCR of your finished coil? Do you have the equipment to measure the impedance? ------------- Support the12volt.com
