hi,
I have 4 alpine sps-600s in my car, and a sony head unit. each speaker is 80 watts RMS, and the HU only puts out about 17 watts.... i know that i wont ruin the speakers by playing them off just this HU, that is a truism...
the real question is whether putting in an amplifier to match the rms better would A) improve sound quality and B) alow me to play the speakers at a greater volume without distortion?
im trying to balance out my system becuase my subwoofers are set at the max on their amp and i still cant play them at full capability because the low end of my speakers distorts too early... the sub amp is a 1400 watt Crunch that does not have many controls....
you should try 2 get a better amp because lower end amps usually have higher distortion, and i dont really recommend having 80rms, just get an amp about 50rms

If I'm to loud, then you're too old!!!
those speaksers will handle 80 just fine. i have a pair of type rs and i am pushing them at 175 rms and they have been running strong for a year. put an amp on them ... you will love it. and i agree with memfus... get a new amp .... i see those crunch amps all day. get something name brand that has some low distortion.

you can do it....
advanced MECP, lol does it really matter....
patience is a virtue
you can achieve MUCH better clarity, depth, and dynamics with the right sound dampening.
My Best Buy kenwood 6x8's can vibrate the side mirrors on certain songs.
