I'm a newbie to car audio. anyways, im gonna get a single 12in eclipse titanium sub (SW9122). rather than throw me brand names/model numbers on what amp i should buy, could you give me suggestions on what specs i should be looking at for the right amp for my setup? my setup would be for the amp to power solely the eclipse sub. im not upgrading the other components, so when i get to that point, im opting to add another amp to power those.
all suggestions and tips are welcome. thanks in advance all!

Great choice those are the subs I use and can say they are worth every penny . These subs are power hungry I would use an amp that puts out about 1000 watts RMS. I have run many amps on these subs and have to say that the JL 1000/1 sounded the best. The amp is not cheap but defiantly worth the money. If you don’t want to spend that kind of money might want to look at the Fosgate 1000bd. What ever choice you make just make sure you buy a good quality reputable amp that puts out at least 1000 watts rms @ 2 ohms.

i also came across a nice tutorial for selecting the ideal amp with a lil more searching on the net. appreciate more suggestions tho! thanks again.

well i thought id found a winner, but when i read the article, it rendered useless to my setup, and did not even mention what type of power handling id need in an amp. if youre still curious, this is the link

Just get a JL 500/1. IT puts out way more power than its rated at and its the cleanest bass I've ever heard. It's also like half the price of the JL 1000/1 which is a great amp but is a bit pricey.
------------- 95 Cavalier 2.2L
High Output Alternator
Rockford 1 Farad Punch Capacitor
JL 500/1 for RF Punch HX2 500 watt RMS subs
MTX 4244 4 channel for Polk & Pioneer door and rear deck speakers

the JBL BP1200.1
Brand new on ebay for around $280 they might go up but you will not underpowered! These are new amps and disregard any of the old amps made by them.

oh, ttt=To The Top...jus a way to bump my topic to the top of the list so people would see it and hopefully get more responses.
is the JBL BP1200.1 another mono amp...does it replace the 1000/1?
