I have a quick question.

The work to remove my 20 gauge stock speaker wire and replace it with 12 gauge seems to labor intensive I have an 2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe.

Can I use the stock speaker wire it will be connected to a mid 150 RMS and 300 max watts the speaker wire runs are 15ft and 22ft.

I seem to be getting mixed answers around the internet.

Thanks

Why do you want to use 12 AWG?  You need no more than 16 AWG.  In any case, I do not recommend more than 50 wpc using factory wiring.

Is it a heat issue or sound?

It seems like most people go with the 12 awg.

Are you sure 16 awg is enough at 300 watts per channel?

16 AWG is fine for 300W. No you don't need any special oxygen free blah blah blah. Monster is marketing BS. Lamp cord will work.

I know monster cable is a rip off I'm going to get the StreetWires 14 AWG speaker wire 50ft for 22$.

I still want to know is running 150 RMS on 20 AWG a heat problem or sound problem?

The issue is this: resistance. Too much of it will reduce the amount of power being delivered to the speaker, as well as having a detrimental effect on damping.

So, yeah... I guess "sound". You will pass the point of diminishing returs almost instantly once you pass over #16 wire, at a 4 ohm load.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

300=e(e)/4.    So about 34volts total. about 8.8amps running through the wires max. 16ga should be a champ.
