have a customer with a 13w6 and its surround is separating from the cone. jl wants $315 to rebuild and gives a 2 year warranty. is this the only way to go? is there a cheaper method to properly replace the surround?

not that big of a tear.  You can attempt to fix it, but it'll be a band-aid that won't last.  Send it into JL and do yourself a favor.

As far as I know, ripping surrounds on 13W-6s' isn't a common problem, which is good @ $315. plus shipping!

What amp, box is this thing mounted in?

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
