i have a sony xplod 2 channel amp. i picked it up for free so i was just gonna use it for my mids and highs but it doesnt have a high pass filter. can i buy a filter/crossover for it? if so how much? i tried to sell it on craigslist for 60 but no one would buy, go figure lol. but any help would be awesome.

infinity referance 6x8s are the fronts and the backs are gonna be soundstream tweeters. about 100 rms.

The tweeters should have their own protection. Are the 6x8's 4 or 2ohm?

so the tweeters will still play at like 15k htz without a capacitor? and the infinitys are 2 ohm.

Okay, I didn't realize that you were going to need a 995uF cap for each 6x8... The 100uF caps are about $20, and for 10 of those in parallel (for each side), that's going to come to about $400! -I'm sure that's a LITTLE steep, eh? I'm now going to say to get some Harrison FMods instead. For about $25 a pair, it's a bit better than $400. First, hook them up to the amp and see if they move too much on low notes -to see if you even need them. ------------- 2013 Kia Rio -90a alternator

hook what up? the speakers? i did and they actually sound like the best mid bass i have ever heard. its great if i had some highs to go with it. very good midbass but thats it, no words can be heard when they are hooked up to the amp. but cool effect, shakes my car a little when they are really goin lol

no cuz i tried it on my buddys amp just now we hooked one speaker up to his directed amp that i gave him lol and turned the lpf off and it did the same. but i like those fmod caps. those are cool beans. i will have to get a pair. what size should i get?

why do i need a 100 uf? just for my own knowledge if you dont mind. also will those fmod caps work just as good? if so what size fmod? thanks for all your help too man. very appreciated

You'll need 995uF -so, 10 100uF caps in parallel would equal 1000uF (close enough to 995). Those FMods are actually better as they are considered active -the caps are passive. You can use a 50% electrolytic/poly mixture on the caps. If we were dealing with Accuton stuff and Monlithic amps the 100% poly would make sense. This ratio can be changed to more electrolytics. The Metal Polys become bypass caps. The cost difference is easy to see. The F-mods do have insertion loss and are non adjustable.
