I'm trying to install a head unit in a 1998 Ford Mustang. The OEM radio has the normal long grey plug for power, and 2 of the small square harnesses for speakers. I can only get the left side playing when using one of the black harness adaptors. The ones I'm using look like this:
There are 2 amps under the rear deck. The bypass harness that comes with the head unit harnesses won't work. The plugs on both amps and both sides are different.
Any suggestions?
It sounds like you have a premium radio of some sort. The 70-5514 looks like it's for systems with only one amplifier and only one jumper to bypass the factory amp.
Metra has a 70-5510 Factory amplifier integration harness. From the looks of it, the low voltage pre-amp signal goes into the large harness. Try looking at metra's website and what looks like what your looking at.

I checked Metra and nothing looks right. I use Best Kits and they don't have anything either.
This is my most hated harness. Reason for this is: the stupid !@#$ plugs don't line up when you insert it. Result: you only get half your speakers working. Realign the pins in the harness and you'll get the other speakers working. Happens every single time I use this @#$'d up harness.
sorry, but I HATE this harness. Thanks Ford.
