1999 cavalier wiring gremlin

Hey guys.

So, this all started out when myself and a buddy tried to wire in a switch for my dome light. For some reason, it always stayed on, so rather than try to track down why, we cut the 2 wires that ran up to it, and connected them on a 3 prong rocker type switch, We then used the other positive terminal to connect to the red 12V constant wire underneath the dash, simply removing some of the plastic housing, and wrapping the wire around the 12V Constant one, and taping the connection. I know it's confusing to explain, so I slapped a picture together:



The wiring was obviously done wrong on our part, and obviously did not work. But, that's not our worry. After this, the CD Player does not turn on. Thinking we had mad a flaw somewhere, we disconnected everything, took the wire off the 12V constant, and re-taped it so no wire was exposed. Still no go. Checked the Radio fuse in the fuse panel, and it was good. Put the prongs on each terminal of where you plug the fuse in, and it was getting 12V. Then, we took the CD player out today to check if there was a blown fuse. The fuse was good. Anyone, can you help us out on this one? What could have possibly happened? Could the CD player have fried without blowing the fuse? What could be possibly wrong??
