hey i got a new car and am doing a brand new system. right now u have 2 cvr 12s in a custom ported box with the trunk sealed off and the ports facing in the cab. the lights dim like crazy from my direct d1200 amp only pushin 400 rms @ 2 ohm. i am going to trade some stuff to a friend for a kinetik 2400 that he has. question is willl that be enough to hold my amp without getting a new alternator? its only a 65 amp on my zx2.

I was going to ask the exact same question, actually. Except my stock alt puts out 90 amps. Hopefully someone will answer.

No matter what battery, you must replace the energy used ie Alternator. If you suck out 65 amps, you have a 90 amp Alt. This assumes that the alternator will put rated amperage hot. That leaves 35 amps to run fuel pump, vehicle computer, lights etc. something's got to give. Alternator failure, Premature battery failure or both. True, the amp will not be a continuous load but with such a small Alt. any additional load is going to be an issue. A kinetik might last a little longer than most but it's still not dealing with the problem.

well how big alt should i get then? i have a directed 1200 with a 60 amp fuse on it.
