I am just curious as to how much of an impact on speaker performance a switch wired into it's signal wiring would make? Would is sound terrible? Can it cause issues for the amplifier unit? I don't need any amazing sound quality out of these speakers... but neither do I want them to sound like mud.

As long as you use a switch that can handle the current required by the speaker, it will have no impact on your sound. Are we talking about a Subwoofer, a 6.5 inch door speaker, or a tweeter? A sub depending on your amplifier and how you have the amp wired, may need a 20 amp switch. A 6.5 inch door speaker, a 10 amp switch should be sufficient. A tweeter with a proper crossover should be fine with a switch rated at 5 amps.

Thanks a lot.
Just a crappy mid in a box that is going in my work truck. So I can put them on the back deck and have some sound outside.
I should have a switch that will do just the trick.
