New to the forum. Looking to install a system in my '98 prelude. Factory speaker sizes are 6.5 in front door and 6x9 on rear deck.
I am thinking of installing Infinity Perfect 6.5 components and 3 Infinity Perfect 10.1 dual coil subs. I might go with 2 12.1 dual coil subs cause the space between the wheel well is tight. What do you guys recommend for the rear speakers inside the car? Should I stick with stock and get 6x9's (2 or 3 ways)? Or I can get Perfect 5.25 components really cheap as well. I'm looking for an SQL setup right now and may add a 5.1 processor and center channels sometime during the summer. An advice would be appreciated.
Great Forum. Thanks.
If your are going to add the 5.1 processor later on go ahead and change the rear speakers. It will also be a good idea to use the Infinity, that way all the speakers will have the same tonal balance. As for the subs go with the 12's.
So go with the 5.25 and 6.5 components? 6.5 in front? I guess since no one will usually be sitting in the back as much.
I'd say stick with the factory speakers until you feel that they are not performing to your needs. The rear fill should only be heard as background fill.... nothing more. If you can hear the rear channels clearly when you turn your head and your ears are to the back, you have the gains on the rear channels set too high. I always tell the customers that the rear fill is the last part of a stereo that you should invest any money into. Go with 6.5 comps in the front doors or build kick pods and use the stock 6x9 in the rear for now.

If u r going to have 2 x 12" in the boot definatly go the 6.5's as the 5.25's might be overpowered by bass very easily, also when u get the speakers installed make sure they are done well , either by the fabrication of kick pods or some really good solid MDF spacers in teh stock locations. It is also a good idea to seal and sound deaden teh doors, this gives a good improvement in bass response out of the front speakers that can really be heared.
Sounds like a killer system but the best components in teh world wont sound there best if the install isnt up to scratch. Play around with diff tweeter positions for a while to u get a sound that best suits u, and moke those doors solid as....!
