here is my question

alright if you have 1 5000 watt sub how is it gonna sound compared to 2 2500 watt subs vs 4 1250 watt subs?

im just thinking one 5000 watt sub should be significantly louder because 4 1250 watt subs are not 5000 watts they are 4x1250

No.  One speaker receving 5000 watts (assuming there was a speaker that could handle 5000 watts) would theoretically produce the exact same dbSPL as four of those speakers receiving 1250 watts each.

Double power = +3db.  Double cone area = +3db.  If one speaker @ 1250 watts = 100db, then 4 speakers @ 1250 watts = 106db, or one speaker @ 5000 watts = 106db.

so triple the cone area will be another 1.5db over double the cone area?

with 5000 watts going to one speaker..I'd say the four speakers would be louder...less power compression with four coils splitting the power vs. one.

Kicker? Soundsplinter? SQ doesn't belong in the same paragraph with those brands... There are MANY other woofers out there that will do SQ first and still split your head open with adequate power!

Wouldent it also depend on the sensitivity of the woofers..  for example if the single 5000 watt speaker had a sensitivity of 84 db and the 4 speakers receiving 1250 watts was lets say 90 db, wouldent the 4 speakers be louder because of a higher sensivity rating?  Im not sure if this is right ,clear me up if i am wrong i was just pondering on this idea after reading the question earlier in the day...

All sensitivities being equal to begin with... Otherwise, yes, you are correct.

I believe that DYohn actually used in his example the same woofer, but one in a 5000 watt install or four in a 1250 X 4 installation.

Same sensitivity, 1 X 5000 will be the same output as four of the same woofer in a 4 X 1250 configuration.

i have a jbl gto 14001 which is rated at 1200 rms @ 4 ohms i believe, (probally aint true according to you're amp selection thread) it has 4 40amp fuses, its in a 04 mustang gt which i believe has a 120 amp altenator, i have 0 gauge power wire going into a distrubtion block with 4 gauge to the amp and 8 gauge to the 4ch

I want spl and sound quality,or at least something that has better sound quality than my two 12" kicker cvx's

Parts Express. On the left, click the drop-down shop-by-brand menu, and select "Audiopulse". Audiopulse is what TC became.

Your friend has about double the cone area

This is probably a case of "there is no replacement for displacement"
