I have searched the forums and know how you guys feel about EQ's, but hear me out.  I have a factoy radio as my source unit running to a 5 channel amp crossed over at 80Hz. My radio only has bass and treble tone controls. My system sounds very good to me, but it lacks in the midrange department. My question is would an EQ help me by giving me the tone controls that my radio lacks? If so, then should it be a graphic or parametric? And lastly, if an EQ is needed, can this problem be solved any other way. Mind you, my system is very simple (not alot of components) I would like to keep it that way, and also I really don't have a large sum of money to dump into this. I just want some ideas on how I might could improve the sound. Thanks for any help.

Yes, an EQ might help you.  If you want to tune your system for a single response curve, then parametric is the way to go.  If you want to adjust the settings by ear from song to song, then graphic EQs tend to be much easier to use for this purpose.
