My daughter wants a new HU for her 08 Kia Sorento LX as the OEM unit fades in and out of stereo&mono constantly. Kia says its normal. Anyways, my question is this. Has anyone out there done this to an 07 or 08 Sorento with the premium sound system? I know it has a factory amp and I am concerned on how to connect to it without causing damage to the amp or HU. Do I have to connect RCA plugs to the vehicles wiring and plug them into the line outs of the the new HU? OR can I just hook up the new HU's speakers wire to the vehicles speaker wires that go to the amp? I don't know what the difference between the two are. Does any one know of a harness adapter that would let me just plug into the vehicles harness and solve this issue? Thanks

Does the AM / FM fade out or do all the sources fade in and out?  If only the AM / FM then I'd say the dealership may be right, but if all sources do, then you're getting hosed at the dealership.

If you want to replace the head-unit, you can use one of two kits, and the standard harness.

Double-din: Scosche KA2092B

Single-din: Metra 99-7328

Harness: Metra 70-7302, or Scosche HY09B

They are both standard harnesses so you don't need to worry about wiring around the factory amplifier.

If the vehicle does not have a power antenna, you still need to connect the power antenna wire of the harness to the amp remote wire of your new deck.

wiring kits are the way to go.

I got one from www.bestkits.com (best buys site or something i believe, cause i bought the kit in the store) and it came with the harness for the HU as well as a wire that bypasses the factory amp in my car.

Some vehicles are tricky with amp integration.  However the Kia above is a piece of cake.  No need to bypass the amp in that vehicle, no noise, no turn on or off pops.  Just change the radio using the harness and remember to power the power antenna wire.
