Can someone help me choose between a couple head units?  Im re doing my whole system.  The head units im thinkin of so far are these.

Alpine CDA-9886

Eclipse CD7200 mk II

Pioneer DEH-P9800BT

those are the ones i have narrowed it down to.  Does anyone have any opinions on those head units?

Read this sticky. Failing that advice, I would NEVER choose any Pioneer head unit, especially over or even in the same FIELD as the Alpine or Eclipse.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

The last head unit i had was a pioneer 5000ub.  It was a decent hu but the only thing i had a problem with was the extra noise it was picking up.  Have you heard anything good about that eclipse hu?

Every Eclipse desck I've owned or listened to have been nothing less than exceptional quality. And I am hard to please.

The noise you refer to regarding your previous Pioneer is a rampant issue with them, thus my reasoning for never choosing that brand name.

ook.  the only reason i was thinking about going with the eclipse is because it has 8 volt pre outs on it and that theyre suppose to make bad ass head units.  I also heard that its hard as hell to use and the instruction manual is like 120 pages long.  Have you heard good things about alpine head units?

They seem to be the favorite of the ones who participated in the following poll.

The Eclipse 7200 MkII is incredible.  Sound quality is second to none with current models, and the instructions on use are not as complicated as you might have heard.  The only thing I have found negative to this unit, is that there is no printed instructions.  All instructions are downloaded from thier website.

Don't be disuaded from the Eclipse because of the instructions.  They are as indepth as any other top player on the market.

its not really the instructions that bother me.  cheapest i found it was 400.  I just had my whole system stolen out of my explorer last week so im planning on starting a better one with the 2500 im getting back from the insurance company.  I just wasnt planning on getting a multi channel amp right away and i think you cant use that hu without a multi channel amp

Four notes for a deck with specs like that is a bargain! My headunit was over a grand!

For about 1 kilobuck, you can gt your deck AND a 5 channel amp (I'm thinking the Alpine PDX-5), with a real 600 WRMS. That amp should keep you happy for quite some time to come! You're getting $2500, for WAY less than half that amount, you have head and amp.

yea thats what ive been thinkin.  but now im kinda leanin more towards the alpine cda 9886.  since everthin got stolen i was gonna redo everthing.  last system i had a pioneer 5000ub hu, 4 infinity kappa 5x7 speakers, infinity 475a multi channel amp, mtx audio 7801 amp, 2 12" kicker cvxs in a ported pro box with 2.4 cubic feet per chamber, and a kinetic hc 800.  Im gonna replace all that with the alpine hu, a rockford 400.4 multi channel amp, 2 kicker zx1000.1 amps, and 2 12" alpine type x subs.  Anyone have any thoughts on that switch?
