i have a 1985 Saab 900 S and i put a sony explode in the car. It had to be hardwired in because i dont have the adapter. The radio works fine except when i turn the car off the radio resets like the battery got disconnected. The time, radio stations, and everything is like when the radio was first installed. I know something is wired wrong but i cant figure out what. Please help me figure out how to wire it correctly.

Hook the gray wire of your factory harness to your constant 12v of your radio...of course i recomend testing first with a dmm, if you have access to one....Also hook the red wire of your factory harness to your switched wire of your radio....again if you have access to a dmm I  would recomend using it..

i've done that but the radio still resets to factory settings when the car turns off.  is there anything else that could be wired wrong.

If your radio is resetting then the 12V memory is losing power.  if you tried to find a constant wire in the radio harness and it still resets find another wire.  If you tried that too, then the best thing to do is run a wire all the way to your battery....fuse it of course....and your problem is solved!
