just wanna know which sub is better?im on a budget so i dont wanna go crazy.ive heard that both subs are good but hte alpines are a great value.i have an '89 crx so i plan on just using one in a ported box.thanks
We need some model numbers in order to compare!
type Rs are OK, but not in comparison to some JL 12s...what JLs are you looking at?
sorry about not putting the model numbers.i wrote this thread at work,so i was kinda in a hurry.the alpine model number is SWR-1241D and the jl model is 12 W3V2D6.My friend suggested the jl but ive read the alpines are a good bang for the buck sub.if i had to choose id have to say im looking more for sound quality than spl.any advice would be much appreciated.thanks
If you’re looking more for SQ I would defiantly go for a sealed enclosure rather than a ported. If I had to choice between the two drivers I would go with the jl however if you’re just going to run one woofer I would not go with the W3V2D6. The D6 stands for dual 6 ohm voice coils. I would suggest you go with the D4 or D2 depending on the amp you plan on using. If you go with the D6 you can only wire it down to 3 ohm, D4 can go down to 2 ohm and the D2 can be wired to 1 ohm. So if you have a amp that puts out 100 watts @ 4 ohms or 300 @2 ohms you will want that 300 watts right. Now in order to do that the sub will need to be wired at 2 ohms so if you want the max out of your setup don’t go with the D6 unless you want to loose that extra power. Now if your amp is one ohm stable than go for the D2 if it’s stable at 2 ohms than go for the D4 and wire your sub in parallel.
This is a little off subject but i've noticed most people here dont think much of ported versus sealed. To be honest i've never heard a good sounding sealed box. All the best i've heard is from ported. Maybe its just me or the type of music. Just had to throw that in there. Personally i've heard the Alpines but i did own a pair of JL 12w0's and i loved them to death. They sounded great for being the bottom of the line subs. Think alot of your decision would be based on how much power do you plan on putting to the sub. That would help narrow down which model would work best for you.
yeah, ive heard both ported and sealed subs and i like them both.i play alot of rock music and stuff along those lines.i dont listen to rap or anything like that.the amp ill be using is a zapco z50c2 competition amp.its rated at 2x50 watts @ 4 ohm but is stable down to 1 ohm.if anyone has any suggestions on a sub/enclosure for this amp id really appreciate the advice.also can anyone explain to me how i should wire a sub to this amp?it has a mono button, but im not exactly sure what this means.i have an idea but i need more advice.thanks alot
