i am hooking a kac-9104 amp into my 2000 pontiac tran am, i am keeping my factory head unit and was wondering if splicing into my rear speakers will exceed the 40 watts max rating for the speaker level input connections. also, if it were to exceed it would the amp just go into protection mode or would it fry a component?

i dont believe it would exced 40 watts depends on if you have a factory amp. to be safe you could use a low output converter that will step it down to a safe voltage

If I understand your question correctly... You want to add an amplifier TO the signal from the deck, so both the deck and the amp are powering the speaker? The speakers won't care, but you will fry one or both components.

That's a guess, as I have no real idea what you are trying to do, here...

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
