What's the closest (of course there's no equal) thing I can get to a W7 12" w/o spending $1000?  I'm looking for either a 12" or 15".  I've got 4800watts to play with.

And anybody ever used RE Audio?  I keep seeing them, and they LOOK good, but who buys subs based just on looks.

you serious? RE audio is awesome. not just looks. and you must be looking at shop prices for a W7 to cost $1000. W7 are good, i used to have an 8W7 that slammed, but they are not God of all sub woofers. in the last sound competition i entered it took 3 13.5" W7's in a x-cab chevy to beat my 1 18" SX from RE and even then he only beat me by a 10th of a db (good thing we weren't in the same class). 149.9db was my score and 150.0 db was his score with 3 of the biggest W7's they make vs my single 18. true story

i recommend the SX series, its a good all around sub with nice SQ and handles the same power as a W7, i run 2000 watts to mine all day

Ok, it's a pretty safe bet that I'm going with a 15".  Sooo....

Vega Stroker (always wanted these, but never seen them in person), HiFonics Olympus, PowerBass Xtreme, Diamiond AudioTDX15D4, RE SX15, or some other recommendation?

RF Power woofers maybe?

I absolutely hate the new RF products.  I loved the old school stuff though.  Just sold a pair of HX-2's.  Bought them just based on my experience, but never used them.  They're 1200watts, and my amps are 2400watts each.

RE all the way man. You would not regret it.
I got 2 SX 15's and the neighbors complaining because everytime I play them home, something is always falling in their house. and I am only giving them approx 900RMS each.

I'm still hesitant though... these are the first reviews I'm hearing about RE.  How would an RE SX 15 compare to a PowerBass Xtreme 15?

W7 is not that great at all bro...seriously you have been brainwashed by the JL hype and propaganda. There are subs that will walk all over the W7 in output and equal in sound quality for much less.

Sundown Nightshade would rape a W7 in output. Many other sq subwoofers also.

My Memphis PR 15 inch sub off 400 watts is louder than my friends 12W7 off a 500/1

no brainwashing required here... until i hear (more like feel) something that puts out like a w7, it will remain champion in my book.  back to the subject at hand though, more suggestions and less w7 bashing.

I think i've narrowed it down... found a good deal on a Powerbass Xtreme and a Cerwin Vega Stroker.  the guy with the PB said he'd hold it for me.  I really want that stroker though.  Still time for recommendations, waiting on people to pay me for the stuff they bought.

I'm not bashing the W7 at all. There are many drivers that will outperform the sub for much less money...Enjoy your ride on your high horse with your W7 though.

my friend has 1 15" stroker pro series sub in a box that he built directly from the specs the technician from cerwin vega told him over the phone........i believe it has close to 3 cubic ft inside the box which is sealed......everyone had been telling him to use more space with ported box but he chose to do it the way the tech told him and it sounds to me like the guy knows his doodie.........he's running 2500 watts to it and its so loud its just uncalled for......he hit 161 db i believe......dont quote me on that but im pretty sure thats what he said it was.......

The ONLY subwoofer i have seen take upwards of 4,000 watts on a daily basis is the FI BTL. If your serious about using all that power look into ficaraudio.com. and im willing to bet that there is no way 1 stroker hit 161 on a REAL meter. :) without some MAJOR modifications to the vehicle.

honestly i dont really care if he is or isnt so your not bursting my bubble....If you READ AGAIN i said DONT QUOTE ME ON THAT.......meaning i could be wrong but so what if i was...thats why all the "EXPERTS" or the ones that think they are can post on here and verify it. I was just trying to give my opinion on how the stroker pro sounds and for being one sub in a tahoe, it POUNDS.

DO NOT WASTE THE $$$ ON THE CV OR THE PB! The CV is an output woofer ONLY, and they sound like crap. They'll do 60Hz all day long, and that's about it. NEVER in my life have I heard a decent sounding CV setup, and I've heard MANY CV installs.

The PowerBass is Swap-o-Rama gear. EXPENSIVE Swap-o-Rama gear, but cheesy, nonetheless. The RE is the best thing you have mentioned so far.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

The only brand on that list that is still worth considering is US Amps.

you might also consider Fi BTLs they are priced very well and seem to really put out well. DD or RE i would also be great choices.
