i just bought a 12" sony explode subwoofer and was wondering what kinda amp i should use?? im kinda new to all this so i dont have a clue what to get. Should it be a 4 channel, 2 channel, mono???

i know the speaker is a single voice coil with a 4 ohm impendance.....RMS 350w  and peak 1200w

would a sony amp that is a 2 channel 800w work good for that sub??

Any help would be appreciated......i.e. brand of amp, how many channels, how many watts?

thanks

If you are not planning to add any more woofers, a 2 channel bridgeable amplifier would best suit your needs.  If you are planning on adding a second woofer, a mono class D amplifier would be your best bet.

im only gonna use one sub.......so how do you wire the sub to the amp so that its 4 ohm? or doesnt it matter? is it just:

+ speaker ----------------------- +amp

- speaker ----------------------- - amp

You need to connect the woofer to the 2 terminals of the amp that are the bridge connections.  The amp should be labeled. It will usually be the left positive and the right negative connections.  In rare cases it will be the left negative and the right positive.  I know of no new amplifiers that use left negative and right positive.
