I just purchased a 1989 Ford Tempo. I purchased from the original owner the following items that he had installed a few months ago, but had since taken out: a Pioneer DEH-P7400M head unit, as well as a MRV-100M Alpine amp, connected to 2 12" subs (sorry, do not have the model info for those, don't think it is relevant).

After finally figuring out most of the wiring (although my dash lights will now only come on when I turn on the interior lights for some reason) to get the head unit working, I am now having a problem with getting the amp to work. As per the Alpine and the Pioneer unit manuals, I have connected the remote blue/white wire to the amp. When I turned on my head unit, I heard a pop sound from the amp, and sure enough the 25 amp fuse blew. As far as I can see, my wiring is correct, so I am now quite stuck on how to proceed to get this thing working.

If someone is able to offer me some advice, please give it to me in lamen's terms, this is my first time dealing with car audio, so I am not too familiar with everything to do with it.

Disconnect the RCA cable from the input jacks of the amplifier. Disconnect the speaker wires from the amplifier. With the radio turned off, replace the fuse and leave it in for a few seconds, remove it and see if it is blown. If it is not blown, put it back in and turn the radio back on. Leave radio on for a few seconds, turn it off and check the fuse again. Let me know what happens.

Put a 15 amp fuse in the amp for these tests. DO NOT under any circumstances put a larger fuse in the amp.

Hello there. Thanks for the quick reply, sorry it took me so long to give you an update.

We did as you said with the 15 amp fuse, everything was fine, so we plugged in the RCA cables and reconnected the speaker wires with a 25 amp fuse, which again blew. At this point though we saw that some of the speaker wires (the + and the - ) had become crossed. After cleaning up the connections, everything is now working fine.

Thanks again for the help though, you definitely put us on the right track to get this thing working.
