I want to know what i need and what comes prewired in the car to put the oem navigation and related equipment in a 2006 Honda pilot that came with just the 6 cd in dash changer. I would like to also add the factory XM and an aftermarket flip down monitor for the kids in rear seat, but I am not too worried about that as I have done hundreds of aftermarket flip downs.

I have looked at lot of pictures on like and it appears as though the 6 cd unit i have now is down lower on the dash (by the HVAC controls) on the Navi models with the the Navi screen in its place up top. I don't know if that means that the wiring is all there to just swap mine down and pug the other unit in up top or not. I know that i will need the under seat DVD ROM drive and the LCD display as well as a GPS antenna I would assume. I just would like to find out if anyone has done this and how much if any splicing of harnesses will be necessary.

very useful post above....

anyways, the car will have the factory harness for power and speaker connections. this will plug directly into the navi head unit. you will need to run the gps antenna and wires for the factory xm, but it will be easy once you have the center consol open. The unique thing is, honda uses something called the Mbus adapter formerly used on alpine head units. If you connect your new navi head unit, you can connect the cd changer that came with the car, but you will need to do some serious wiring to get that running.

it would have been cheaper and better if you went aftermarket. purchase a nice metra dash kit to match trim if you have, get a nice flip out or double din indash navi unit and you the unit will ave aux, xm, sirius inputs so the combination is endless.

I have been looking into an Alpine system but i just wish it was more reasonable to do the stock swap. I prefer the look of stock especially in a family car, but I guess it is what it is. Anyway to hook up my Ai-net xm to be controlled through stock 6 disc in dash XM ready headunit?

no real way of doing that since you want the xm to be controlled on the factory navi. You must pick navi or 6cd indash, unless you can head to a junk yard and look for any honda 02 and newer, and rip out the radio harness. that way you can power both head units on at one time and use which ever you like, but as i mentiond this is time consuming and a frankestein job.
