I recharged my battery and it is running fine at the moment but I have a belt sqeeul or alternator sqeeul. Its the pain in the *** to adjust the belts and has been realy cold here. I am not going to buy an alternator when I have a perfectly good one on the shelf that is H.O. output. My question is if my alt craps out before I get my 1700 watt system in will there be any problems running this 170 amp alty? I would ofcourse increase the big 3 as far as engine and battery grounds and positives. The car is a '91 honda prelude with a stock 70 amp alt. The H.O. Alt is 170 amp with lifetime warranty. I have a hawker oddyssey pcmjtL1200 that I would put in aswell and if needed I could probably get my trunk/amp battery in too that is a hawker oddyssey pcmjt1700. My first priority is to get this alt and batteries in because I know my battery is on its last leg as it turns 6 years old this month. It is a die hard gold I believe.
if you are taxing the 170 amp alt more than it can produce it will eventually die (all alternators die eventually, this one will just die faster) and then of course it will kill your battery.
Running the H.O. alternator without needing the 170 amps that is capable of will not be a problem at all. If the charging system only needs 20 amps to maintain itself, that is what the alternator will give it.
