I have a 1999 chevy suburban the radio has a cassette and a cd player. the radio and cassette and the cd appear to work normally but I have no volume. it dose have that noise control volume. when you turn off the ignition the speakers thump a little. It does not display "LOCK" . The Little LED beside the volume knob dose not come on. some one did have an amp and speakers hooked up, They tapped the rear speakers for the input on the amp. I thought it was in protect. all the amp speakers and wire have been removed . it is normal now but no volume. Any Ideas ?

When you say "back to normal", do you mean that all factory harnesses are intact? Are there two harnesses behind the radio? Is there a smaller harness (6 or 8 pin if I remember right) that is not plugged in to anything? If there is, you need to power up the pink wire in that harness with a remote turn on lead. You did say that you do hear a thump when you turn ignition off, so that might not be your problem, but that's where i would start.

I Did not pull the radio or diss assymble the dash. I just got this truck in a trade. it had two speaker wires laying i the back floor. I traced them back to the rear deck speakers. someone skent the insulation on the wires that connect to the right and the left speakers. they wrapped the new speaker wire to the existing wire and taped it . I took all that loose. yes there is a small thud when you turn the key to off position. It may just be a problem with the speed/noise volume control? Or maybe the amp on the radio is bad but why the thud?

check your speaker wires for shorts to ground. and check the resistance of each speaker, they should be close to 4 ohms each if it isn't a factory bose system.

Thanks for the input. I work on it when I get a chance in the evenings and that is only 10 to fifteen min. so it is slow go. I did take the rear 4.5"x10" speakers both L and R out and tested them. The coils where open. I will have to replece them. They are Delco Electronics 4 ohm speakers. Where is the best place to get them? I did not test the front and mid yet. I will replace the rear first maybe i want have to pull the others out. Thats a pain.

best place to get factory speakers? you might start looking at a junk yard first or maybe ebay. i wouldn't go to the dealership because they will tax you severely for what you get. you would be better off getting some new speakers. if you live near a circuit city, you should see what they have left because you might be able to score a set for next to nothing

I did get two used speakers today from Hut Stricklands salvage yard they came out uf a 97' . I got both rear speakers and the covers for $15.00 . cant get better than than. did you know that they will read opn if you test them. that is why I thought the others were bad they did not read 4 ohms. I did connect them to a home stereo and they did play. so back to the truck. I had two 6" round 3-way speakers that were new in box on the shelf. So I hooked em up(they do read 4 ohm ) but still no volume the radio final out could be shot. still has a quit thud when you remove power ( switch the key to off position). now I saw somewhere that the truck has a speaker relay. do you know where it might be? do you think that is good place to look? I think maybe the radio output in defective. I dont want to remove the dash and radio but if thats what it will take then so be thank you all againg for you input.
