I have 2001 Miti. Eclipse with a Infinity factory amp system. I have done many car stereo, amp, sub installs on my previous cars but now i want to do one on this car. I have never done an install on a car with a factory amp and was wondering how to by pass the factory amp. I have a Alpine CDA-9856 deck, an Infinity Reference 7520a amp and a couple tens in a box that I want to install. I dont want to use the factory stereo or amp. I want to power the speakers with the receiver and the subs w/ the amp. Is this possible? Any help would be appreciated. Thx

what is that and what does it do? I guess what I am asking is if I have to leave that amp in that car and wire the system around it(bypass) or can I remove the amp from the car. I guess since its not hooked up like a typical aftermarket amp is where I get confused. It has a harness pugged in with a bunch of wires, alot more than a typical amp. Can anyone explain what I have to do.

metraproduct 70-7002..........factory amplifier bypass harness.......allows installation of an aftermarket radio using the existing factory wiring and connectors. No cutting of factory wiring is needed.........Unplug plugs from factory amp, plug the bypass harness in and run the bypass harness wires behind aftermarket radio and connect

ok. I went to fry's to get that part and they said dont use it and completely rewire the new deck to battery and speakers. That using the harness is alot more work and wont sound as good. I have looked around the web and read alot of forum posts and alot of people used that harness and didnt complain of any problems. So now I am confused on which way to do it. To me it seems easier to use the harness and wire that bunch of wire to the back of the deck than to wire wires to each corner speaker and the power, acc, etc wires. Has anyone done this before on this car and know which way is better?

use the harness its the easiest way

I agree.....use the harness! It'll make life a lot easier for you. otherwise you'd have to cut and connect your wires at the factory amp, which i'm sure you know is under your passenger seat! I don't see how using the harness can be more work...BS if you ask me! It's EASIER, and shouldn't sound noticeably different than running your own wires!

that lets you use the factory amp.
other wise you need to build passive xovers to go where the OEM amp was and wire the radio to them directly, then use the infinity amp's speaker outs to go to the front components and rear speakers... Isn;t a whole lot easier.
