Hey all,
I am looking to put 2 12's into my jetta. i was thinking about getting the 08 alpine type x 12's(they have dual 4 ohm voice coils), but i just want to know what type of amp(s) i need. i am a do-it-yourselfer just looking to show off some subs. i just want to keep it all under $3000. can anyone reccomend an amp for me

You have a couple choices. A 1 ohm stable mono amp to run the pair or 2 2ohm stable mono blocks. 1 per sub. You could use a 2 or a 4 channel but watts for dollars i dont think that would suit you as well. Just do some looking. There are plenty of amps that will fit the bill. -------------

i want to get 2 1000w alpine v-power amps to power two alpine type X 12's(1000w rms). would this work or is 1000w the peak power of the amp?

If you are refering to the Alpine MRP-M1000 it is 1000rms @ 2 ohm. So yes 2 two of those, 1 per sub would be a perfect match. -------------

I highly doubt the Jetta's factory electrical can handle 2000 real watts

i am getting one 12 type x. i think i am going to make a fiberglass/mdf box. i havent decided if i want it to be ported or not tho.. i think it will just be sealed because its less work.

A stock Jetta won't be able to handle 2000w RMS. I have a 03' Jetta and I have slight headlight dimming at 500-600w RMS (it's actually probably less then that). You will need to upgrade the alterantor and "big 3" (read sticky) for that vehicle. Even if you go with 1000w RMS you should be doing the big 3 upgrade.
The Type-X works well in a ported enclosure, I would recommend that. If you go with a fiberglass enclosure then it is a lot more work though.

alpine type x or jl 12w7? the jl one looks more badass but the alpine might have better sound quality. any opinions help.

You actually have it backwards. The Alpine, if properly powered and housed - meaning at LEAST a PDX1.1000 - will be an amazing output machine, with the sacrifice of extension. The JL, also if properly powered and housed - is far more an SQ woofer with respectable output capabilities.
My choice is without question the JL, but I will always choose SQ over SPL.
------------- It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

2 alpine type r’s or 1 type x? which one would slap harder. because they are roughly the same price, i could go with either

it looks so sick, and it would do work. what type of box should it be in, cuz i want to make a sealed fiberglass for the looks but as far as sound goes i want the best
