I'm thinking of adding this... Dave, Dan, Rob, Bob, Jack, Jeff... Sound off! DOES "HD radio" sound like 128k (or worse, even...) MP3 as I have heard? Or does it really sound significantly better than analog FM? I ask you guys specifically, because I know you like your tunes as clean as I do. I'll take input from everybody, though! And if it does sound good, are the horror stories regarding this piece just due to technologically challenged ID/10/T's, or do I wait for the next generation?

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
HD radio is ok. its definitely not CD quality but its WAY better than satellite radio as far as sound quality IMO. it sucks to have a good system these days because it brings out the flaws in just about anything thats not a CD or high bit rip. and you might want to check what stations you can pickup first, if you havent already. i know a few people who were highly disappointed by the selection down here after paying $200-300 for theirs when they came out. all we get in New Orleans are rap and jazz. i understand HD jazz but who needs rap in HD especially when lots of people down here like to use bull horns that sound like garbage to blast their tunes so the whole city can hear. sorry for the rant

and you still have to worry about how far away you are from the station so static can still occur.

I have an Alpine 500HD receiver connected to my HU and I like it. Higher quality than standard FM, even if the content remains the same. Makes listening to KFOG more enjoyable. Significantly better than MP3.

No commercials either right? On some stations anyway. I'm pretty sure the local station here, KBPI has two HD radio stations. One is commercial free. I could be wrong but I remember hearing that somewhere.
commercial free? i dont think so. anything you dont pay for will have commercials in some way, shape or form.
