Ive got a 1998 Toyota Corolla, and im mounting a pair or 6 1/2" speakers in the back.  There are factory holes already there (other models come with 4 speakers rahter than just the 2 in the front that ive got)  I just need to know if I drill holes and mount it to the metal, or if i mount it to the bord/rear shelf?

anyone able to help me here?

What I did was use 5 1/4" speakers instead of 6 1/2" speakers. If I remember correctly, the opening of the factory hole doesn't quite fit the 6 1/2" speakers. That's why I when with the 5 1/4" speakers instead. I used the 5 1/4" speaker and mounted on to the rear deck. With the 6 1/2" speaker I was afraid that I would get the rathering of the speaker bouncing and rubbing against the metal factory hole. Before you do any cutting, you would need to do your marking on the hole from the underneath your trunk first. Then remove the rear shelf to do the cutting according to the size of the speaker that you want to put in. I use a jigsaw for the job.
