Hello, I'm upgrading my son's car and am wondering about Scosche's Note on the packaging that states the connector is not for use on "factory amplified" sound systems.  The car in question is a 1997 GrandPrix with amplified rear speakers - non-Bose.

Any idea what the issues are wit this connector and Scosche's note?

Is it a Monsoon factory system? Most of those are. You can identify it by looking behind the carpet in the trunk on the driver's side. If there is a black amp with the word "MONSOON" in red letters, this is what you need to do: The harness will still connect and work, provided you take the following steps. You need to replace each speaker in the vehicle and perform an amp bypass. When you do this, you will essentially be connecting the inputs(from the headunit) to the outputs that lead to the factory speakers. On the output side of the Amplifier, you will find a woofer and tweeter wire for each speaker. Just tie the woofer wire output to the input from the deck. That way, you can install your own component speakers with ease OR just install coax speakers instead. If it is not MONSOON, the GM02B will take care of everything. The BEST thing you can do is to run all new speaker wires, but if you can get your hands on a wiring diagram, this may be easier. Check an auto parts store for a repair manual OR go to the library. It should have a diagram for this. Finally, test each connection with a multimeter and/or tone generator whenever possible.
