jl 12w7amp choices.

yah i know the w7 amp questions have been beatin to death around here but justed wanted to here some opinions.

The car: 97 cutlass supreme two door.
subwoofer: 12 jl w7 in the high output enclosure.

big 3 will be done before the installation and im gonna try to stay away from the upgraded alternator if i dont have too. I am using a redtop battery.

the head unit is a DEH-P8500MP pioneer, think im gonna try to find a alpine CDA-7998 when i decide to replace my door speakers. I like the older model cd players, dont care for the new ones.

i was thinkin of just one 500/1 for now, running both the dual coils then later down the road running a 500/1 on each coil. I was also thinkin about runnin a mtx 81000d but i think that is just to much amp for the 1 sub. Also the whole 3 ohm coil thing is weird to me. gonna be runnin a jl 450/4 on the highs.

Any chance we could get the subwoofer wiring diagram on this site updated for the w7 coil configurations??

    13w7 has the dual 1.5 ohm voice coils.  12w7 is single 3 ohm voice coil as far as I know.   I would use the JL 1000/1 since they're designed with the w7s in mind and they aren't that hard to find used. or maybe a PDX 1000.1   

yup your right, i missed that only the 13 are dual coils.

probally gonna stay away from the 1000/1. have heard a few and was not too impressed for the money.

i heard a 13 w7 with a 1000/1 and another with 2 500/1 one on each coil and the 500/1 beat up on the single 1000/1. could have been the setup though but both were in suv's.

gonna buy new too because im a big fan of having a warranty.

hmmm... maybe i am gonna have to run a 13. but they dont sell them in the High output boxes and my box makin skils are non existent.

BEWARE! If you are going to use two amps on a single dual voicecoil sub, your amps MUST be setup using a multimeter, any difference in output between the two will screw up your sub.  And a person cant just set them up wide open on the gains, each amp will put out slightly different amounts of power, even with the gains visually setup the same on both amps.  Good luck dude! BEWARE! If you are going to use two amps on a single dual voicecoil sub, your amps MUST be setup using a multimeter, any difference in output between the two will screw up your sub. And a person cant just set them up wide open on the gains, each amp will put out slightly different amounts of power, even with the gains visually setup the same on both amps. Good luck dude! Mike

false...doesn't matter if the amps are different or if one amp is putting out 100 watts while the other is putting out 500 watts...as long as the signal is the same there will be no problems.

False yourself.  You are going to tell me you can put 100 watts on one voicecoil while putting 500 on the other wont damage the speaker? your nuts...

I'm not nuts at all. There won't be any damage. There is no reason there would be any damage. The voice coil is sent a signal and the speaker diaphragm moves.

If you think I'm wrong than EXPLAIN WHY it would cause damage rather than just say its bad.
