Hey guys,

I have a 2003 hyundai tiburon gt with the infinity factory upgrade.

I have an alpine iDA-X200 and 2 12" Kicker Comp 07C124's in transit to my house as me speak also.

I am very confused by the whole amplifier RMS and junk.  (power stuff)

I need a 2 way amp to power my new subs which have 50-150 watts RMS each.

I dont know how to go about finding an amp that will work. can anyone give me any suggestions or maybe give me a condensed version of how to find an amp?

I would look for a 2 channel amp with an output of 150 watts RMS at 4 ohms per channel and hook each sub up to its own channel or a 4 channel amp you can bridge to two channels with 150 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms. you could also use a mono single channel amp with 300 watts RMS of power at 2 ohms. this way you would wire your subs in parallel and present the amp with a two ohm load. Keep in mind that a 2 ohm load with make the amp run hotter and you also need to make sure you find a 2 ohm capable amp this way. Most amps these days are 2 ohm stable unless you bridge them.

I hear kicker makes decent amps but never tried any.

here is an example of something you could use:

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_206SX6501/Kicker-SX650-1.html?tp=115

Above would work if you wired the subs in parallel

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_2064SX9002/Kicker-SX900-2.html?tp=115

Above would work if you did not wire the subs together and hooked each sub to its own channel on the amp.

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_1363004V2/JL-Audio-Slash-v2-Series-300-4v2.html?c=3&tp=115&avf=N

Above would work bridged with each sub going to its own channel and the subs not wired together in parallel.

this is all assuming the subs are single 4 ohm voicecoils which they seem to have.

If you go the bridged 4 channel route you probably want to make sure you dont wire the subs in parallel because that would present the amp with a 2 ohm load. Bridged most amps are not capable of a 2 ohm load.

forgot to mention also if you go the bridged route to read the manual and make sure you use the appropriate channels for bridged mode since its usually different. Most amps have indicated above the channels which terminal to connect it to in bridged mode.

Hope this helps!

Your subs are single 4 ohm. they handle 150rms per sub. So with a pair you can run 300rms to them. wire the subs in series to the amp that will give you a 2ohm load. the Kicker ZX300.1 is a perfect match for them as it does the full 300rms at 2ohm. the lowest ohm load you can run is 2ohmwith those subs so you will want a mono amp that will push 300rms at 2ohm or less. a 2 or 4 channel amp could work but bang for the buck go mono, plus you will for sure get sub crossover network as mono amps are built for subs.

two 4 ohm voice coils wired in series would give you an eight ohm load. If you wired them in parallel on a monoblock amp that would give you 2 ohms I am pretty sure. Its what I run on my two G5 4 ohm subs on my monoblock amp. Not trying to start a fight just pretty sure that would give a 2 ohm load.

 "07C124"  07= model year/ C= comp/ 12= diameter/ 4= single 4 ohm.

you are dead right about that. parallel will yield a 2ohm load not series. + to + and - to - on each sub then to the amp is how it should be wired. good catch..... im tired way past my bed time posted_image

2 svc 4 ohm subs in parallel: (4 x 4)/(4+4)= 2 ohm load on a monoblock

2 svc 4 ohm subs in series: 4 + 4 = 8 ohm load on a monoblock
