For about $170 bucks you can get a Pyramid 2,000 Watt Power Royal Red Amp!!! posted_image I've used this same amp to overpower my 18" JLW7's, so that should give you an idea!

Consider a Lanzar amp, they're cheap and quite decent.

ummm, wantofok, there is no such thing as a JL18w7...

now, by the rest of your post, I am not sure if you were being sarcastic overall or what, but the inaccuracies of what you said are astounding...first of all I dont think Pyramid ever has or ever will build an amp that could overpower an oldschool JL12w3...

when you see a 2000W badge on a Pyramid, that is rated because IF all of the planets and the stars line up in a straight line, hell freezes over, your electrical system surges and feeds it 24V of input, and you happen to instantaneously crank the gains in the amp, the volume knob on the deck, and the wind happens to be travelling at 62.749 miles per hour in a North/Northwest direction, that amp will possibly see close to this number for about 1/1500th of a second before it snaps crackles and pops in a big poof of smoke, leaving you with a molten mass of Pyramid...

the best amp listed there is the JBL bp600.1...Lanzar is OK, and they will do close to the power they claim, but I dont think they are near as reliable as the JBL...

LOL, I WAS being sarcastic Big P...and your theory is quite true(and funny). Anyways, I would go with JBL over Lanzar anyday. JBL is a good "band for the buck."

I thought you were, but sarcasm is often so hard to convey in text, as opposed to actually hearing...

I stand behind my theory, as funny as it seems, I do believe that I am pretty close on that one...I may have been off just a wee bit in the wind speed, but we are talking fractions of a mph, so I think we are OK there...

think about the Rockford 400s, u can find them for $163 and they are stable at 2ohm, mine puts out 854 and my friends nearly 900.  And the power is CLEAN!

exactly how are you measuring that amp that you claim to be getting 854 Watts?

that number seems quite far fetched if I am thinking of the same amp...

I just went to Rockfords site, and they claim 800W PEAK, and their peak claim is usually optimistic...remember that Rockford measures their amps at 14.4 volts as well, not 12 V like some of the better companies...

now, your claim of 854W seems way out to lunch...especially after seeing what Rockford estimates the amp at...I bet that the amp wont put out more than 450W RMS...and that is being optimistic...it may put out a reasonably clean 425W, but I doubt you are anywhere near 500W, let alone 850-900...

I forgot what the certificate says when you buy the RF amps...do they tell you the RMS power or the peak power?  Assuming that 854 watts is from the certificate and its the peak power, it has little real-world meaning.  Also, 2-ohm stable could mean anything.  These amps are NOT stable when bridged to a 2ohm load.  Their minimum impedence is 4 ohms bridged and 2 ohms stereo.

I'm not saying it isn't a good amp...but let's make sure we've all got the correct specs for it.

I think its been a while since I have even bothered looking at a RF birth sheet, but I am pretty sure they list rms power...I know that they have started to measure at 14.4 Volts to beef up the look of the numbers too...when other companies with less claimed power are still measuring at 12V...
