2009 vw gti satellite radio antenna

Anyone know if there is anyway to use the factory satellite radio antenna with an aftermartket sportster unit?

you would need the right connector for the sportster, unless you are willing to open the sportster and hardwire the antenna straight to the connector (probably a bad idea), and just splice that onto the factory antenna wire. the wire is just co-axial wire just like a cable tv wire so there will be a very thin inner single strand copper wire in the middle, then there will be the nonconducting inner shield, then a braided outer shield, and finnally the outer jacket.

you need to be very careful when you strip the inner insulation with a sharp knife or a razor blade because if you damage the thin wire in the center in any way it will break, the same is true if you bend it too much. anyway, strip each side back about 2 inches so you just have the middle strand and the braided shield. move the braided shield out of the way and carefully twist the center wires together so that they are still in a straight line, DONT twist them like you will be using a butt connector because you need to solder the wire in the middle to keep a good signal. once you have it twisted and soldered cover it with hot glue and wrap a little bit of electrical tape around it. next do the same thing with the braided shield, twist it together and solder it and tape it up. put a bunch of tape on the outside so that the joint cant move, if it can move it might break later on and you'll have to do it again. if you do it this way the signal quality will be fine
