I was wiring a subwoofer and amp today. Audio input came from the speaker leads(there are 2 sets, presumably for separate voice coils) at the factory sub in the rear deck ('01 Cadillac DeVille) via a line output converter. Remote turn on came from accessory wire at ignition switch.

The problem I encountered was that there was no sound from the subwoofer sometimes when the car was started up, and then after a few minutes they would kick in. I couldn't pinpoint the cause of this, though at one point when it wasn't working I unplugged the RCAs, switched the amp to "high level" input, and tapped one set of speaker leads directly onto one of the female RCA jacks of the amp(I should say - positive to the center and negative on the outside of the RCA).

At this point, I immediately got sound from the subwoofer. It then continued to work when I plugged the RCAs back in.

I'm stumped as to what's causing this. I opened up the LOC and there didn't appear to be anything bad; also the amp wasn't heating up or going into protection mode.

Anyone else ever had anything like this?

BTW the amp and sub are both JL Audio products. Sub is a W7 and the amp is 1400XL or something like that.

ive had that happen to me on the lexus and some beemers. i just disconnected the stock sub and the problem was gone. there must be some type of resistence slumpin the amp ...i mean youre addin bass might as well get rid of the stock sub.

In this case the LOC was replaced and the problem hasn't recurred.
