I have a 1991 Ford Explorer and I am trying to locate the factory amp, so I can bypass it. The stock stereo has the two plugs, the standard power harness, and the square speaker plug with the gray cover over the wires.

It doesn't have a factory subwoofer, so I didn't take off the rear panel to look for the amp, but it does have a gold device that is underneath the dash in the center. It is around 6 inches by 8 inches and it has rounded edges

I don't like to integrate into the factory amplifier because I have always had troubles with sound in the pass.

if you have a factory amp it will be in the rear passenger quarter panel.

Even if there is no factory subwoofer? Is that just the standard place for the amplifier?
