Hi there, I'm trying to instal a 2008  Silverado OEM radio in a 2006  old body Silverado, I got the harness from Metra, but it has a data wire, is it possible to install it if the truck does not have that wire?

I don't think this is possibly as for

1.) the mounthing is completely different.

2.) I believe they are tow different type data systems.

then again anything is possible.

I am in the same boat.  I am trying to put my 07 silverado OEM radio in my 1986 Monte Carlo.  So far I have easliy identified the obvious speaker wires as well as the constant 12v and ground.  But I have a feeling the GM lan system turns the radio on some how and I have yet to figure that out.

Just figured it out.

I called PAC to see if they could give me any wiring information for late model GM radios.  At first he really did not understand what I was trying to do but after explaining what I wanted he gave me the answer.  When PAC sets up a display for a show they obviously need a way to power OEM radios.  They do this with a product that they make called "Lan On", which provides a data output to the radio allowing it to power up.  Although you cannot find information about "Lan On" on their webpage it is available through a PAC dealer for around $100.
