OK. Here's the question. I dont know if the dealership is jerking me around or not. I installed a 4guage street wire kit in my car, for my amp. Soon after that, b4 the amps were installed, and power was going through the wire, my check engine light came on. Now I take it to the dealer, and they are telling me that, my 4 guage wire, interfered with the ECM, made it send out a bad signl to the O2 sensor, and shorted the line somewhere. Are these people jerking me around, or is this possible. IThe check engine light came on BEFORE the power or fuse was put into the power cable! Now they wont cover anything, and this is going to cost an arm and a leg! Anyone got any input, negative or positive, I can take it. Thanks again guys!

Chad

Unless you messed up some wire while installing it (like if you used a coat hanger and it could have poked into a wire), they are bullsh*tting you.

2k2Accord,

I know that silicone sealant can damage the O2 sensor, but not a bad signal from the ECM, theoretically speaking. If your car is still under warranty go to a different dealer and get a second opinion or a third if you have to. I don’t see how the 4-gauge cable can make the ECM send out a bad signal. There are a ton of wires underneath your car and I don’t see how the 4-gauge cable is any different from the rest of the other wires. Like dragonrage suggested the only thing I can see it going wrong is that you might have poke a wire and short it out during your installation. Anyway, before you get all work up on it go get a second opinion at another dealer.

Thanks guys, thats what I'm gonna do, go to another dealer, to have them look at it.  The original dealer saod that I need the whole wiring harness replaced.  They also said that they will cover the wiring harness, now what thats telling me is, that it was not my fault, but they still want me to pay for labor, 80 beans an hour!  I really dont think I have any other choices.

I actually went back to the original dealer that I took the car to (seeing that they stil had it!) and they showed me the wiring harness that was under the gromet that the 4 guage power wire was run through, and all the wires were intact.  They then told me that they will warranty the wiring harness (They are replacing the whole thing!)  but I will have to pay for labor.  I'm just gonna let them do it, so I get my car back, then I'm taking action on it.   I just dont want them holding my car, ya know?

I'm just saying, seeing that they are going to warranty the harness, that kinda tells me that they found out that its not my fault, and the just wanna see how much loot they can get outta me, thats why they are charging me for labor.  But thats just what I think!

I have had problems like this before with dealers wanting to screw you. If they try to nail me for something they say is my fault I just remove the offending part and take it to a different dealership that has no clue of the previous modification. It kinda sounds shady but you have to fight fire with fire.
