My friend has a 95 chevy suburban and he has a Pioneer DEH-P3600 and when you turn the vehicle on the sound comes on for a few seconds then goes out but the HU is still on. It worked fine since he got it for like a year and just recently started acting up. I dont know what is wrong.

He could possibly have a shorted speaker or a grounded speaker wire. The newer radios will protect themself iwhen they see a problem.

are the speakers factory? do you also have the 2 speakers up on the roof way in the back. if you do and all 6 speakers are playing it could just be that you have too many speakers on that radio.

Another thing could be a shorted driver. Try balancing left and see if it works OK. Then balance to the right. If it just cuts out with one side or the other, the side that cuts out has a shorted speaker.

ok i finally got a chance to play with it and it works if you turn it to the front speakers and only 4 are hooked up not all 6. The sound stays on perfect until you hit a bumb then it goes out again until i turn it off for a few secs and turn it back on

This sounds like a grounding issue of some sort. Check all of the speaker connections and make sure that they are insulated with tape.
Also, try grounding the HU directly to the car chassis, instead of using the factory ground lead in the harness.
One last thought: you can run multiple speakers on one channel, just be sure to wire them in series so your impedance increases, as opposed to parallel, where the impedance decreases. If in doubt, check with a DMM as to the overall resistance on that speaker set. For Pioneer HU's, the recommended load per channel is 4 ohms.
Personally, I have a 4X6 coaxial and a tweeter wired in series on each front channel of my Pioneer DEH-4000UB head unit. Not a lick of trouble.

Yeah, definatley sounds like a grounding problem. Check all your connections at the back of the HU.

sounds like a speaker is loose so when you hit a bump it touches the metal of the door. -------------
