Are you sure that amp is 1 ohm stable?  are the woofers single or dual voice coil?

Hmm I thought the L5 was dual coil... if so - you're saying you wire TWO L5's - dual 4 Ohms in parallel and then parallel again which made them 1 ohm correct? Ok, were the subs / amp brand new? My guess is maybe one of the coils was lower resistance and made the amp run lower than 1 ohm or maybe clipping caused it to blow (gains too high?) Did you check the resistance of the sub wires right before hooking it up to the amp? You might want to check each coil with a multimeter...

1 ohm nominal impedance. It can drop to well below that in the passband, overloading your amplifier.

Another example of over-hyped, exceptionally-optimistically-rated Kicker gear. I wouldn't EVER run ANY kicker amp at its maximum "specified load".

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
