Subject: capacitor charging, lights still dim

About 3 or 4 months ago I purchased brand new capacitor to keep my lights from dimming every time the bass hit. When I installed it I did not charge it with the provided charging device thinking that I did not need it... shortly thereafter I noticed that my headlights were still dimming with the bass. So my question is would it still be possible to charge it the correct way so that its working properly? Or could it be that I did not get a big enough capacitor to match the power draw for my system. I have an 800W max. amp that I'm probably drawing almost all of 800W's out of it. If there's anything I can do please let me know! Post any instructions as well too please!

The only reason they give you the charging device is to keep you from causing a large spark when you charge the capacitor. The large spark usually results in an arc mark on your brand new pretty blingified capacitor. The cap only helped for a short time, in your mind. The Idiot that sold it to you should have stopped you from purchasing it.

The capacitor won't increase the ability for your charging system to produce current and therefore won't really help with dimming headlights.

To fix your power problem you should upgrade the "big 3" and if you still have a problem with dimming lights look in to a bigger alternator.

AMEN, brother!

Additionally, a cap is either charged or not... there is no "charging it correctly". Don't try to ask further or over-analyze about this fact, this IS the way it is. If is connected to a voltage source, it is charged.

Another case of a band-aid on a bullet wound!

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Simple way to break it down....

If the car was diming before, it was flowing enough current TO the amp or the car couldnt PRODUCE the power in a fast enough time. Now, you add the cap...it provides for the split second burst to hit that sub hard, NOW its empty and you have effectively DOUBLED your draw on the car until the cap is full again. Granted this takes mere portions of a second but it DOES overtax your charging system even worse than before....
