I have a project truck (79 bronco) i want to upgrade the system in and i have a mtx multi-channel amp (mxa6001 model num.) that runs 300w rms to two channels at 4ohms and 600w bridged at 2 ohms.
i was hoping to run just a singe 10" sub that would conserve space while giving me a little bump, nothing overkill.
my problem/question is can i run a single voice coil 4 ohm sub off of this amp being bridged at 2 ohms without just ruining it? im not finding any 2 ohm, 10" subs..
id like to run just one sub and not have to buy a new amp so any make/model subwoofer suggestions or wiring wisdom would be tremendously appreciated!
It should be pretty easy to find a Dual Voice Coil 10 inch woofer with 4 ohm voice coils. (2) 4 ohm voice coils wired in series will yield a 2 ohm load.
By simply bridging it, you're not gonna change the impedience of the sub. In order to achieve a 2-ohm load with a single woofer, you're either gonna need a 2-ohm SVC ( which isn't isn't all that common ), or a DVC 4-ohm sub.
thanks guys, i guess i just got a little confused with the whole ohms changing thing. i have pretty good hands on knowledge on cars for like mechanics but thats because im so very visual. and since i cant " see " electricity i get confused lol. maybe one day ill post pics of my finished truck up here! thanks alot again you guys rock it! keep it frosty.
Your amp is a one channel amplifier. It is capable of a 2 ohm load. You need to get a Dual Voice Coil 4 ohm woofer. Wire the coils in parallel for a 2 ohm load.
Get a 2ohm SVC or 4ohm DVC. That way you can get your 2ohm load.
600 RMS at 2ohm? Sound like a job for kicker CVX 10" ! They are dual 4ohm. (or dual 2ohm).
Now...about the enclosure, you didn't specify what type you had.
