Actual MODEL numbers are unbelieveably helpful. That being said, it IS a Sony amp, and while they may or may not be optimistically rated (they are...) running all of it's available power into one voice coil could be enough to overpower it, thermally. Running one voice coil will NOT, in and of itself, hurt the woofer, but you do need to remember to de-rate the woofer's maximum power capability by about 25%... (it is not a 50% de-rate)

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Wire your subs like this.  There is no need to just run one coil per sub. Also what type of encloser do you have, amp power  wire size and is this run through a line converter or after market deck?

Got ya thought you had 4. After reading you post again i see where i miss read it.  Wire the sub in series at a 4 ohm load or you can use one coil as said above. With 2ga. Power wire you should be able to keep the amp more than enough current and we are not talking much power. Are you using the D bass boost on the deck? Do you have the bass cranked on the deck? What type of enclosure is it in, Sealed or ported? custom built or prefab?

Also dont worry so much about how high you have the gain turned up. The gain is not a volume knob it is simply to match pre-out of the source.

Why you think i said the SUB not the SUBS? You can wire the SUB in series with both coils of the sub giving you a 4 ohm load, Use one coil giving you a 2 ohm load or wire the SUB parallel 1 ohm load (not supported by your amp). Now if you would answer the questions above so we can figure out your problem. Most likely the enclosure or user error on set up of the amplifier or deck.

yea down to 4 is where it is now but i'm tryin to get the max out of it cause i know it's not a lot. i try to keep my bass on the deck at or below -5, the sub around +5 and i like to crank it up. i do use the loud but i don't know bout the D Bass Boost. i got it in a sealer prefab and it's not that big. looks like those JL boxes, LOOKS.

OK now we are getting somewhere. Slow start this morning. D bass is what the older sony decks use to call there loud button. Im betting its the box. Kicker subs love airspace. Ported with that sub is your best bet for loud.Even more so with that type of power to it.  They respond better to lower power than sealed. Do you have any measurement of the box? Is it made of 3/4 MDF? Need to know if this enclosure is even the right size. Also in a sealed box it needs to be air tight. Any leaks in the enclosure will make it sound like poopy and loose you a lot of output. Also as for gain. Take a look at this topic. https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp~TID~85479~PN~1

Thing to do.

- Reset gains using the link i sent you. With your loud on if you feel you have to use it. I would not. Sub level at your normal loud spot. volume at 3/4 and tune it. Bass i would leave flat or at your normal - level. any time you raise the bass eq higher than what you had it set or if you tune without loud on and then turn loud on the gain needs reset.

- Check the box for any air leaks. Check all the edges and around the sub its self. Measurements for the box would help greatly to know if it is even the correct size.
